About Jade…

Jade Pellett
Hi my name is Jade, I have over 12 years experience in Hairdressing and it all started from a very young age, my mum has owned her own salon since I was about 4 years old, in Cape Town, which is where I grew up so I was used to helping answer the phone and being a general help around the salon during school holidays, I also used to use my friends and my sister as models during many ‘Hairdresser – Hairdresser’ games over the years, much to my mum’s dismay!
When I was 15 years old we moved over the UK, where I took my GCSE’s, during which time my mum suggested I get a weekend job for extra pocket money, so I took a job as a Saturday girl in the salon my mum worked at, I stayed there for about a year and a half until my friend, Laura, who also worked at the same salon, got a placement as an Apprentice with TONI&GUY in Camberley, this sounded like a great opportunity and my mum really encouraged me to put my name down if any places became available.
A few weeks went by and then I got the phone call for an interview, I met the Manager, Anna, and before I knew it I had started my Apprenticeship with TONI&GUY.
I worked really hard and managed to get my Nvq 2 Qualification within 18months, I also attended many courses at L’Oreal such as Colour Keys and Colour Change and then went onto getting my TONI&GUY Diploma, I was a Qualified Colour Technician!
I was nominated by our Nvq provider ‘ITS’ as ‘Best Modern apprenticeship Completer‘ a prize they give out at the Learning Skills Council and Won against many other nominees from many other industries, this was Fantastic! This gave me a real boost!
I was really keen to further my career so I started to teach in the salon and go to the TONI&GUY Art Team meetings for inspiration.
I also attended the L’Oreal Train the trainer and Advanced Train the trainer courses to gain more experience.
I then started working towards my NVQ D32/D33, Which is a teaching diploma, which I managed to gain within a year!
I then embarked on the Gruelling ‘L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree’ a course only the Best colourists in the country complete, it was a 6 week course and very challenging, yet very exciting, I completed with a 96% Distinction and came top of the class, which was a real achievement.
Soon after completing this I decided I might quite like to work for L’Oreal as a Technical consultant teaching courses and managing accounts.
One of the girls at the salon worked for L’Oreal part time and mentioned there were jobs available.
So I went for it, now at the age of 21 I wasn’t really expecting to get any job with L’Oreal, but as my Dad said “its all good experience!”
A few weeks later I went for an interview and then another interview and I got the job!
I was now a ‘L’Oreal Technical consultant’!
I loved my new job, meeting many salon owners, working with them to train their staff, I also taught courses at the L’Oreal Academy including, can you believe it, the L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree!
I never thought I see the day of teaching one of the hardest Hairdressing Colour courses in the world, but I was and I loved it!
I was a Technical Consultant for about 2 years and then a more Senior role became available, ‘National Accounts Technical Manager’ this would involve looking after big accounts such as TONI&GUY, HARRINGTONS, HEADMASTERS, CHARLES WORTHINGTON, DANIEL GALVIN, SAKS, SANRIZZ and many more!
My boss really wanted me to go for it, but I was apprehensive, it was a big responsibility!
I went for the interview and it was between 2 of us in the end, I was sure the other girl had got it, but I was WRONG! I got the job as ‘National Accounts Technical Manager‘ I couldn’t believe it, I was on cloud 9!!
My main account was TONI&GUY which was great as I trained with them and knew the way they worked, I also looked after many other big companies training their staff, presenting New products, organising events, making taylor made courses for each individual organisation, taking them on trips abroad and many other brilliant opportunities.
This was a fantastic time in my career and working so closely with many of the TONI&GUY Franchisees gave me the bug to want to own my very own salon, so I went for a meeting with TONI, yes THE TONI MASCOLO!
I met with TONI and I met the criteria, TONI&GUY had decided to stop opening any NEW salons and build on the existing salons, of which there was a list of salons I could chose from, KINGSTON immediately caught my eye, what a fantastic location! Before long I have handed my notice in at L’Oreal and taken over TONI&GUY KINGSTON as my own Business!
I owned the Salon for 5 years, in which time I worked with many fantastic members of staff, we came 2nd in the WELLA Trend Vision Competition and even got a few appearances in the ‘Hairdresser’s Journal’ the most popular Hairdressing magazine in the country, we did many events over the years and I got to meet many amazing individuals, it was a great experience! I attended many Management Courses and even an NLP course, it was a great experience!
But before long it was time to renew the Franchise agreement, I decided I would prefer to go it alone, as managing 16 members of staff could be a little stressful at times, so in January 2010 I decided it was a good time to make my break and I did, I sold TONI&GUY KINGSTON and formed my new company ‘HAIR REMEDY‘ this was a massive change to what I was used to and also very nerve racking completely relying on me, myself and I, but I love it and I love the people I meet along the way, its great that my focus is solely on my client and not what’s happening at the desk, or what member of staff has not turned up for work or any other distractions.
